Mink oil
Mink oil is a conditioner. One boot maker lists it among the options for oil-tanned leather. The same maker says it darkens leather and should be used sparingly on the napped leather where it is suggested.
Saddle soap
Saddle soap is sold as a leather cleaner. Read its label for which leathers it is meant for, and condition after if the label says to.
Which leather
- Oil-tanned: oils and conditioners, per the maker.
- Smooth-finished: cream, per the maker.
- Suede and nubuck: follow the maker. Oils can change the color and nap.
Test first
Both can change the look of leather. Try a small amount on a hidden spot.
